A few weeks back, Racked rounded up their list of the best indie boutiques in the city. We’re happy to report that Love made the list alongside some of our other personal faves around town. We also noticed that the Racked editors seem to share our proclivity for staying solidly below 14th Street. You can check out the rest of the stores on the list here.

Victorian Pink Gold and Garnet Ring

I bet you knew that Garnets, in addition to being incredibly beautiful, were the birthstone of January. HOWEVER, I bet you didn’t know that they are also the state gemstone of New York! The stone of constancy and commitment, garnet has been used for centuries around the world for protection and vitality. Our collection of garnet jewelry at the shop is some of our most beautiful, be sure to check them out in person or online.

Church Street Surplus

via “As It Happened” by Michael Williams

One of those places that stylists, costume designers and real New Yorker’s frequent, I found a plum fake monkey fur coat in 1991 that was my favorite for years. Filled with vintage military, leather jackets and accessories of all kinds, Church St Surplus has been around for 40 years for a reason. Find it, shop it, love it.

Beaded Vessels

Crystal Bowl

When I first moved to NYC in the early 90’s, I spent so much of my time just wandering the streets soaking in everything the city had to offer. One of my favorite stores that not only served as an inspiration for New York Adorned but really made me want to get out and see the world, was Craft Caravan, on Greene St in Soho. This guy had such an amazing eye and there was just so much to see. He never minded that some young chick spent hours in there touching everything and never buying. I was so bummed when it closed. Now Ford has gone on to do Production Design in film and television. Check out The Selby for more pics of his amazing loft in Hells Kitchen and get to know him through this article in Paper Magazine written by Kim Hastreiter. This guy is real deal
