The Weird Ones

The Weird Ones

When I see people in the street with fancy jewelry covered in diamonds and such, I’m like a magpie. I love ALL good jewelry. But when I see people in beautiful, strange jewelry, I want to know who they are.  And when I’m out in the markets buying for the store, I get so excited when I come across an unusual piece that only that very specific client will love. Luckily, Love has a lot of these specific people, so often my fave pieces are gone from the store a little too quick for my taste. Here’s a selection of what we currently have in the case:

Late 1800's Double Finger Ring

Sometimes I’ll wake up to a night’s worth of emails from Lori, with her amazing finds from the internet; like this antique ring from Berganza Jewelry. Made in the late 1800’s, the emerald in the center is engraved with “Salam Allah” (Peace to Allah), while the two cultured pearls sit amidst some incredible gold scrollwork. Check out some of our more contemporary offerings on this classic design, which, apparently, never goes out of style.

Gold Vermeil and Inlaid Stingray Gems

Gold Vermeil and Inlaid Stingray Gems

THIS JUST IN: Deco inspired jewelry from Collette Ishiyama. “Emerald City,” the initial collection from the designer, is derived from her interest in “Egyptian burial jewels, samurai warriors and the omnipresent sliver of the Chrysler Building.” Hand carved and cast in either gold or white brass, these pieces are also inlaid with Black Stingray for a dark but clean sense of luxury.

Ships Ring with Large Tourmaline and Sapphires, 9k Gold

Ships Ring with Large Tourmaline and Sapphires, 9k Gold

THIS JUST IN: A selection of rings from British designer Polly Wales. These rings are amazing experiments in metalwork, as Wales explores the process of lost wax casting. This involves taking a wax mold and pressing gems into it, then replacing the wax with gold during the casting process. As the stones set in place the wax leaves remnants of any activity that occurred, like fingerprints and shifted stones; perfect imperfections that make each piece special. This sense of singularity, both timeless and unique, also makes them an exceptional option for wedding or engagement bands.

18k Gold Earrings with Sapphires, Tourmalines, and Quartz Crystals

THIS JUST IN: This selection of jewels from Lola Brooks is altogether otherworldly, with perfectly faceted or sliced gemstones and  picture agate glowing luminously from 18k gold settings. It’s the stuff that dreams are made of!

She’s also known for creating art jewelry as sculptural objects, combining gold with cut steel and painted rhinestones. In this photograph she’s holding her Bloodstone Garnet Heart, with a sleeve tattoo done by NYA Pop Up Resident Virginia Elwood.
